Introduction

Cookies are small files that websites place on your computer as you browse the web. They have many uses, from remembering what items you've placed in your shopping basket and remembering your login information to helping companies provide targeted advertising. Like many websites, we use cookies to help us run a smooth service, to discover how people are using our services, to support our advertising efforts and more.

Below we explain how PORT uses cookies and how you can take control.

Categories of cookies

There are four main categories of cookies:

CategoryDescription
1. Essential CookiesEssential cookies are sometimes called “strictly necessary” as without them we cannot provide many services that you need on the Websites. For example, essential cookies help remember your preferences as you move around the Websites.
2. Analytics CookiesThese cookies track information about visits to the Websites so that we can make improvements and report our performance. For example: analyse visitor and user behavior so as to provide more relevant content or suggest certain activities. They collect information about how visitors use the Websites, which site the user came from, the number of each user’s visits and how long a user stays on the Websites. We might also use analytics cookies to test new ads, pages, or features to see how users react to them.
3. Functionality or Preference CookiesDuring your visit to the Websites, cookies are used to remember information you have entered or choices you make (such as your username, language or your region) on the Websites. They also store your preferences when personalizing the Websites to optimise your use of PORT, for example, your preferred language. These preferences are remembered, through the use of persistent cookies, and the next time you visit the Websites you will not have to set them again.
4. Targeting or Advertising CookiesThese cookies are placed by third-party advertising platforms or networks in order to deliver ads and track ad performance, enable advertising networks to deliver ads that may be relevant to you based upon your activities (this is sometimes called “behavioural” or “targeted” advertising) on the Websites. They may subsequently use information about your visit to target you with advertising that you may be interested in, on the Websites and other websites. For example, these cookies remember which browsers have visited the Websites.

Your choices

We are committed to offering you meaningful privacy choices and are currently working hard to provide you with even more control over how cookies are used when you visit us.

In the meantime, you have a number of options to control or limit how PORT, our partners, and other third parties use cookies:

You can modify your settings in most web browsers to accept or deny cookies, or to request your permission each time a site attempts to set a cookie. Although cookies are not required for some parts of our services, PORT may not work properly if you disable cookies entirely. For example, you cannot log into https://www.port.im if you've disabled all cookie use.
